The forum "New Alliances and Players - Institutional Investors and Climate Risks" addresses the question of what relevance climate change has for investors, what role they must or want to assume in overcoming this challenge and the structures and solutions in which possible obstacles must be removed.
In this context, currently existing investor initiatives from Great Britain will be introduced, such as the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC) and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), using concrete examples to identify motives, approaches and possible barriers to investor initiatives.
The regulatory relevance of emissions trading, the damage resulting from extreme weather events and the various risks associated with climate change and its effects (including reputation, legal, legislative and physical risks) are only a few of the motivating forces that will be discussed. Another central component of the discussion will be the identification of obstacles to increased investor activity. The ultimate goal of the discussion is the exploration of possible areas in which such intensified, proactive involvement by investors can be facilitated.
