Climate and energy solutions are on the table, cleaner technologies are available, yet countries are
struggling to fulfill their Kyoto commitments - let alone make much stronger emissions reductions that
are necessary to stabilize the climate. There is a need for unprecedented, massive innovation to
develop, commercialize, and bring to market and scale low-carbon technologies that will revolutionize
the world. To reach the necessary scale, a more comprehensive low-carbon technology innovation
strategy is needed. Today’s energy and climate policies alone cannot drive clean energy markets at
the scale or pace necessary to solidify energy security and stabilize the climate by 2050. Current
structures for financing and commercializing innovative technologies are failing to deliver muchneeded,
low-carbon technologies to market. Only by simultaneously tackling the twin challenges of
accelerating the pace of low-carbon technology innovation and creating broad-scale financing and
commercialization can we achieve a planetary energy transformation.
This forum will look at different models to deploy new technologies, such as low-carbon technology
investment, G8 efforts, and the German renewable energy law. Panelists will also discuss new and
broader strategies to design and implement effective, innovative climate solutions.
